I decided to re-post this today because once again I am in full clean mode. For the last 72 hours or so I have been deep cleaning our home like crazy!!! I finally got our store room cleaned out and am deep cleaning everywhere else! It is cold and the temperatures are dropping fast which means winter is almost upon us and I’m not ready yet! So I decided to motivate myself and get moving! So if you need a little motivation today to get things done before the frost comes, here’s some great ideas to keep you on track!
So for the last week or so (okay like month…so I like to take my time) I’ve been deep cleaning my house so that we can be ready for winter. From cleaning out the closet, to cleaning and restocking the freezer; it’s been a long journey. I’ve become quite annoyed with cleaning all the time, but recently, while having a conversation in a Facebook chat room for Christian women we were all talking about cleaning and how we all hated it. Seriously, who likes cleaning? Until one member pointed out that when we clean our homes and keep them neat, we are not only serving our family, but serving the Lord as well.
For if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church? -1 Timothy 3:5
Now as a homemaker, I take this seriously. I do not bring an income into my home, and I am allowed to stay at home with my pets and someday I will stay with my children. My husband is forced to go into the working world, supporting us and providing for his family. So it is my duty to take care of his needs at home. And sometimes, it’s not so easy. In a post a little while back, I talked about how to make your house into a home, but sometimes we need more motivation to get there.
When you’re get up and go has gotten up and gone here’s some tips to get you back into the swing of things:
1 | First things first
First thing in the morning when you get up, if you’re anything like me, you curl onto the couch and watch TV until noon and realize you’ve gotten nothing done. So, instead of doing that: shower, get dressed, have a good breakfast, and a cup of coffee or juice…whatever floats your boat. Get your blood going and get excited to serve your family and Lord. Turn on some upbeat music and start with the easiest chores first. Then make your way to the harder chores.
2 | Have a plan
Have a weekly plan, and a daily plan about what you’re cleaning and when you’re cleaning it. When you go around are spending time trying to figure out what to do, you’re wasting your time. If you need some inspiration, check out my organization board on Pinterest.
3 | Finish what you’re doing
When you’re cleaning and you take whatever you’re doing and make it into a multiple day project, you’re setting yourself up for failure. If you have a really big project plan to get it done in one day. If you need help, call in reinforcements. Seriously, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve called in a BFF when I feel overwhelmed.
4 | Have some fun with it
I will admit, when I’m cleaning you will find me either jamming out to an awesome playlist or listening to an audio book on audible.com. If you really hate cleaning, this is one way to make it pretty fun. And sometimes, when I’m doing dishes I’ll even watch my favorite vloggers on youtube. (Shout out to J House Vlogs!) Right now, my favorite DVD to watch is either from the Homemaking Series from The Focused Homemaker.
Remember, you are the keeper of your home. God has given you that role, wear the title proudly. You are the difference between a house and a haven for your family. Who else but you can have that kind of influence in your home?
