In the second book of the Ilyon Chronicles, we continue follow the lives of Jace, and Kyrin and the rest of the Resistance as they continue to oppose the Emperor and his false gods. This time, the emporer has something that is vital to their cause: the scripture and writings of Elôm. Will they be able to rescue the scrolls and keep the resistance safe?
Out of the two books of this series that I’ve read so far, this one is my favorite. Maybe because I am now getting more into the series, or maybe because I like this book better…I don’t know. But I do hope that my interest continues to increase with each book that comes out!!
Character Development 5/5
Massive challenges lie ahead of our heroes that will test their will to live, their faith and devotion to Elôm, and their development is so realistic to what so many people on this earth are going through for their faith, that it makes me stop and think. This book really relays some real world problems that Christians face today and it is sombering. Kudos to Knight for capturing this.
After finally getting into the flow of Knight’s writing, I can say that from one book to another, her writing is seamless. I really enjoy that consistency that she provides throughout her books.
A story of recovery and rescue, this definitely is a high action plot. There is a bit of “down time” in the beginning, but I promise you this book is chalk full of action. And be prepared, because at 440+ pages, you’ll have to have some time to read this because you won’t want to put it down.
What I Loved:
This novel definitely had me on the edge of my seat. A lot of action was definitely fun to read through. And one of my favorite legendary animals happened to make an appearance (sorry, no spoilers), so that made me happy.
What I Didn’t Love:
There was one event in the book (again no spoilers), that I soooo did not like. I understand how the event had great effects on the entire plot of the book, but I would have liked to see a different ending. Oh well, I’m not the author am I? *smile*
