The first book of the Ilyon Chronicles, we follow the lives of Jace, a half-blood, and outcast among his people; and Kyrin, an exceedingly smart young girl stuck between a rock and a hard place when the Emperor of Arcacia makes a decision that affects the entire kingdom.
This series is one that I am interested in following until the end. This (to my knowledge) is a six part series by Jaye L. Knight that currently has 3 books out. (Not sure if the Half Blood Novella counts or not, so I’m not counting it. *smile*)
Character Development 5/5
Since this is the first book I’m not going to honestly look at character development so much, since there are supposed to be six books in the series. But so far, in the few years we follow Jace I really enjoy how he develops, and I enjoy reading through his thoughts and how he breaks through his shell.
I really enjoyed this book. This is one of the more *adult* (I don’t know if I can actually call it that, but my point is that it’s not a middle reader or high school book.) So the language, and flow is definitely different from the books I have reviewed before. It took some time to get into, but once I got the flow of things I really enjoyed it.
An old plot, with a new twist. Rebellion against the emperor/king, but this time, the true King is our Lord above. Definitely a great story with different point of views it keeps it interesting and fresh on the old tale.
What I Loved:
I loved the depth of this novel. Knight did a great job of twisting and embedding little details that make this story truly remarkable. I also really loved the length of this book, it is a long book and took me a good long while to read. I enjoy good long books.
What I Didn’t Love:
Like I said before, it took me a little while to get into this book just because I review a lot of books directed towards a younger audience. Once I did get into it though, it was a great book.
