Decorating your home, as a woman, is a fun and enjoying thing. Getting to put your stamp on your home, is like giving guests a little tour of your soul. For yourself, decorating your home gives you a little safe haven to return to that regenerates you, giving you the strength to face the outside world.
No matter how you decorate your home, whether you enjoy modern chic, or rustic charm, decorating your home can be tricky. Bringing a perfect mix of a calm atmosphere and a place of joy is not an easy feat. But, here is the number one trick to any homemaker to making your home the perfect haven.
When we’re decorating our homes we often want to add a splash of color, or some extra soft throw blankets, maybe a wall decoration or two, and that last piece that ties it all together. And when you’ve finished and are so proud of what you’ve done; you sit back, relax, and enjoy the peace surrounding you.
But a few months down the road, you decide that you don’t really like that style anymore, so you go out and purchase even more decorations to fill your home. That same home that will bring you peace and serenity. And so the cycle continues…
So what is the problem? Why are we constantly unsatisfied with this sanctuary we’ve made for ourselves?
The trick is, we haven’t invited Jesus into our homes.
While we’re decorating we’re focused on colors, decorating styles, and accent pieces, we forget to add Biblical encouragement, love, and compassion to our home.
There’s no point in attempting to bring a sense of serenity into our homes if we’re not inviting Jesus in. While we have our Bible times, and family prayers, we often don’t encourage those faith filled times to blossom. By surrounding ourselves with a variety of encouragement filled home decor items we’re constantly reminding ourselves of God’s love, and that we are His children, here to do His will.
When we fill our homes with secular decor, we leave little room for our eyes to be constantly reminded of our roles as wives, mothers and homemakers. This itself is causing us to draw a little further from God, leaving us more vulnerable to the world’s point of view.
These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. -Deuteronomy 6:6-9
Not only, as sinners do we need reminders from God everyday, it has been commanded by God, Himself. He knows the will of our hearts is to serve Him alone, but He also knows our sinner nature and He knows that we are in desperate need of constant reminders of His love and His commandments.
We might have Bible study one day, but we might stumble the next. We might be faithful in prayer one month and the next we don’t bother to pray at all. Having a home decorated with the Lord in mind gives us a constant opportunity to start each day anew and gives us the strength to face the troubles that the world brings to our doorstep.
